Effect of Tetracycline on the Homogenanate ATPase Activity of the Rat Liver

Abstract
|
|
|
The present report was an attempt to study the effect of tetracycline on both Mg.,-, and Ne-K*activated ATPases of homogenate from rat liver in vitro, and the results are summarized as follows.
1. The homogenate cpntained Na+-K+ activated ATPase in the presence of Mg++. The Na+-K+ATPase activity was increased in proportion to the protein content in the homogenate.
2. The activities of Mg++ ATPase and Na+-K+ ATPase were both inhibited markedly by tetracycline. 3. The inhibition of both Mg++ and Na++K+ ATPases activities by tetracycline was nearly preventedby an addition of cysteine in the incubation medium.
